We are a group of high school students from Patchogue-Medford, NY. We are embarked on a new project to restore bird habitat in the Fish Thicket Land Preserve. The Fish Thicket is a 100+ acre preserve in Medford, NY that we, as students of Patchogue-Medford, are stewards of. We are working with Cornell Cooperative Extension and hope to increase awareness in our community about our local environment.
Our team has accomplished many sub-projects:
- The creation and installation of Screech Owl nests.
- Planting a beneficial garden.
- Cleaning up the Thicket.
- Many community educational events.
We traveled to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology for a full day immersion of talks, tours, and sharing. We also did a presentation on our project during our visit and at the New York State Fair.

We hope to see you at Fish Thicket on East Woodside Ave soon!
